Campus Safety & Security

July 31, 2022 As summer break is winding to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the start of the 22-23 school year. The first day of school for students is Monday, August 15, 2022. High Point Academy is looking forward to a great year of endless possibilities, student achievement and strengthened educational relationships with our students and families. This year promises to be exciting as we are beginning our 8th year of operation as a Texas Public Charter School District! For your reference and convenience, I have included two important links below to documents that will ensure a smooth transition into the school year. Please take time to review these prior to the first day of school:

  • Student Handbook Link

  • Return to In-Person Instruction Link

Over the course of the summer, a charter-wide Safety & Security audit was required by the State and was submitted to the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) for review. This audit covered a broad range of concerns, identifying areas of proficiency and areas in need of improvement. It was carried out with fidelity in order to ensure a safe and secure start to the school year. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) also required all schools to conduct a Safety & Security Door Audit, which required that all doors close and lock on their own. If any doors were found that did not close and lock on their own, those were required to be resolved immediately. Beginning this school year, each campus will have designated “security” personnel on campus which will be non-identified to students, staff, parents and the general public. There will also be one “identified/recognizable” security person at each campus location/address. As a matter of practice, all school personnel will be trained in safety & security measures in order to ensure familiarity and adherence with designated processes and procedures. To that measure, the following drills are required to be conducted within the course of the school year:

  • Fire/Evacuation Drills (monthly)

  • Lock-Down Drills (once per semester) - requires all interior/exterior doors locked; everyone in rooms; lights out; no talking; no sounds; all phones silenced.

  • Secure Drill (one per year) - requires all doors locked tight; everyone inside the buildings.

  • Tornado Drill (one per year)

  • Shelter in Place for Hazmat (one per year)

High Point Academy is prepared for a safe and exciting school year filled with learning and fun for our students and their families. We look forward to our campuses coming to life again with students and staff in the hallways and classrooms. We appreciate the trust you have placed in our schools as we continue to work diligently to ensure that our schools are safe, secure and healthy environments in which to learn and grow. Thank you for sharing your student(s) with us. I hope you have a good finish to your summer!
