Captain's Log - HPA SFW - 09/11/2022

Greetings Parents and Guardians, As I began typing the newsletter for today I couldn't help but notice the date. It's Patriots Day, the annual observance on September 11, 2001. I'm sure you all remember where you were when you heard about the events unfolding. This world can be a scary place especially for our children. I want you to know that we do our best to keep our students as safe as possible while they are in our care.

  • All exterior doors are kept locked all day

  • Visitors have to sign in through our front office and get a badge before entering the building

  • We practice and prepare for real life events such as fire drills, inclement weather, and while I pray that we never have to go into a "lockdown" due to an active shooter, we do practice and prepare for that as well.

Tomorrow we will have a lockdown drill. I will make an announcement and the teachers will ensure that their doors are secure and move students to an area of the room where they can't be seen through the door window. They will be asked to remain silent. Most students are used to this because they have practiced the drills in previous years. However, for our younger students this can be scary. If you could help prepare them for the drill tomorrow that would be great. Please know that your child's teachers will also be talking to them as well so that they will know what to expect. As we move further into the school year our "Upcoming Events" listed below will grow and grow! Please pay close attention to these dates! We will have a very special Fall Open House on the 1st Day of Fall, September 22. I don't know about you, but I am so ready for those cooler temps! You will get to see some of your student's great work and look at the curriculum to see what they will be learning this year. I will go over our Campus Improvement Plan and would love your input for how we can make our campus the best elementary school in South Fort Worth! We are a hidden gem! Would you please help spread the word that we still have some openings in our school? If you have family or friends who are looking for a great school that focuses on the Fine Arts please send them our way! All they have to do is register online through our website! HPA Leadership Club is ready to start selling their SPIRIT shirts. Information went out last week, but you can also click this link to see the shirt and information. These shirts can be worn on Spirit days, which is every Friday. Did you know that our Middle School and High School has competitive sports? This Friday night is "Elementary Night".
