July 21, 2020
Good Evening High Point Families,
Earlier today the Local Health Authorities for Tarrant County issued an order stating that “School Systems shall not re-open for on-campus, face-to-face instruction or activities until September 28, 2020.” This order is effective immediately and continues through 11:59 pm on September 27, 2020. School Systems are required to re-open through distance learning with buildings remaining closed to students for regular on-campus instruction and indoor school-sponsored activities. I have included a link to the order that was issued here.
With that in mind, our first day of school is currently set for August 17. It is possible that a proposal will be made to our Board of Directors at the next scheduled board meeting (July 30, 2020) for the start of school to be delayed until August 31. This would still allow for the school year to end on May 27, 2021 (barring any potential shut down of school during the year) and would require board approval.
Rest assured that we are committed to providing quality instruction that promotes the success of our students. At the same time, we must also ensure the preparedness of our teachers. I have every confidence that by focusing our immediate efforts on a strong start for this school year, our students will certainly benefit in the long run. For those who participate in extracurricular activities and sports, those sports and activities are on hold for now. Please watch for communication in the near future regarding school start information, as well as health related protocols.
Thank you for your patience, trust and continued support during this uncertain time as we respond to these shifting requirements and diligently plan for the return of our students and staff.
Take care, be safe and stay well,
Katie P. Stellar CEO / Superintendent
