Notes From Our Counselor

Attention 11th Grade Parents,

All junior students have the opportunity to sign up to complete the PSAT on October 12th for $6.00. If your son/daughter is interested in taking this exam, please complete the registration link here: https://forms.gle/ELzvDefCrUimHn4U8

The PSAT is a great practice opportunity for the SAT. For 11th graders, the PSAT results are used for qualification purposes for National Merit Scholarship Programs. Ms. Garza will distribute PSAT Student Guides to all registered 11th graders during the week of September 26th. The guides contain information about the tests as well as a full-length practice test. Students are encouraged to take the practice test before testing day. More information about the PSAT can be found at www.collegeboard.org/psat Score reports will be available online in mid-December.

All payments will be invoiced to MySchoolBucks after the Sept 16th PSAT registration deadline has passed. A #2 pencil and a school-issued calculator will be provided for the exam.

Please note: All 10th and 9th-grade students will have the opportunity to sign up for the PSAT 10 and PSAT 9 during their spring semester.

Healthy Bites

Eating lunch (and breakfast) is super important for your student to have a productive day at school. Headaches, stomach aches, a drop in blood sugar and dizziness can all be caused by not eating. It's very hard to focus in class if your stomach is growling. We have noticed an uprising in the number of students who are not bringing lunch to school. We do have emergency food for the occasional forgotten lunch but these seem to be more of a "I don't have time to make a lunch" kind of problem. Encourage your students to pack up their lunch the night before especially if they have a tendency of running late in the mornings. Providing food high in protein for their lunches such as greek yogurt, cheese, and beef jerky is a great choice. The high protein causes you to feel full longer and will hopefully help them to make it to 4:00. Remind them to get their lunch before they walk out the door. If your student is an athlete and is staying after school for practice, extra snacks for the afternoon would also be a good idea. Have them bring a refillable water bottle to school so they can stay hydrated. Thanks for helping to keep our students healthy and successful!

High School Boys soccer will play Dallas Christian right after at 7:00PM. Come watch and support the HPA soccer program at Central Park 8902 George St, White Settlement.

Admission is $5 Adults, $3 Students and Kids 12 & Under Free.

Volleyball

Another GREAT week by your HPA Volleyball teams. Middle School is 5-1 on the year, JV is 5-3 on the year, and Varsity is 7-1 on the year. All the teams are really on fire right now and if you haven't seen them yet they are a blast to watch. The teams keep getting better each week and the number of students who come out to support increases every game. The entire atmosphere is so much fun!!! Thank you

So you can see that you have plenty of opportunities to come out and support. Monday's games are away and huge so please travel to Keller/Saginaw and support these amazing athletes. Friday's games are home games.

Lastly, we have put up caution tape behind the team benches. Please do not walk through there. It is huge that everyone comes out and the atmosphere is rocking, but we are breaking stuff and not on purpose it just happens. So please walk around to the other side. Our student body is loud and amazing and I hope that we keep coming out and encouraging our team and not saying a word to the other team. We have had both coaches and refs comment on just how amazing y'all have been so far. Let's keep it up.

Lacrosse

Lacrosse will be having Open Nets on Wednesdays after school until 6 PM. This is open to any student that is wanting to play lacrosse. You CAN NOT miss an in-season practice or game to attend an off-season practice. We have way too many athletes who are in multiple sports or activities and we need to be respectful of those who are in-season. This also includes those in FineArts as well. We all work closely together to make it where you can do as much as possible. This is what makes HPA so GREAT.
